Credit Crunch Dresses

As a single parent with no regular income I know how difficult it can be to keep your daughters in ID. I certainly couldn't have kept both mine in it for as long as I have, if I hadn't been able to make their dresses myself. Even tho Sara gave up a few years ago now it's still been difficult to keep Rhiannon going to class and feis.

With that in mind I've decided to take into account the credit crunch and make more 'affordable' dresses for those who can't manage to go to the bigger named dressmakers. As lovely as their dresses are I know there are those of you who just couldn't spend that much on a dress.... me included.

Prices will depend on size, detail and difficulty of working with the fabrics chosen. I will be endeavouring to keep the cost of a bells and whistles dress for a UK size 12 to around £700 max.

I'm also prepared to take payments on a payment plan, in advance, with the balance being paid before the dress is sent.

I'm not in a position to take on many orders and will only take on what I know I can manage. I don't want to be in a situation to let people down.

I hope this will help some of you out there who, like me, am struggling to make ends meet atm.

Thanks

Neesha's Dress

Neesha dances for the McNamara school near Liverpool UK. After a disaster with the original embroidery we decided to go with a soft skirt option for the dress. She's tiny so it suits her well and is lightweight.

It's a 3 piece dress the bodice zipping up the back from the waist, The skirt also zipping all the way up from hem to waist to make it easy to get dressed and the petticoat is attached to a vest bodice so when the dress is taken off it preserves modesty.

The bodice is navy blue silk velvet lined with white polycotton and embroidered in white. Skirt is white satin with a high sheen and embroidered in navy blue. All finished with crystals.

Close up of bodice and the headband, which is covered in the embroidered tulle and scattered crystals.

The petticoat is made from white tulle embroidered with silver flowers and edged with silver lame.

Vicky's Dress

Vicky is a senior dancer from my region in NW England. She loves to dance and has many other hobbys too as well as being a busy veterinary nurse and a very clever lady to boot.

Fabrics red satin with overlay of glittered netting, white with mop sequin circles and gold swirl lamé

She wore it for the first time on Saturday. I wasn't there to take any pictures but hopefully she got some and will forward them onto me.

Chrissey's Dress

Chrissey contacted me some time ago to ask me to make her a dress. We tossed around a few ideas and came up with this design.

And here are the finished pictures. The light is causing a problem on the right of the pics. I will be getting some pictures from Chrissey and her mom when she wears her dress out..... I'll put them up, but for now here's my bad pics :o)

The dress is made from black satin and a fuschia pink with metallic strands. A white lace petticoat and white tutu. Embellished with lots of diamantes to give it that extra sparkle.

Hope the dress brings you luck Chrissey

Katie's Dress

This faux 5 panel dress has been made for Katie, a little girl in the USA. She wanted a blue dress and flowers.

So we looked through various fabrics and decided to use a white fabric with blue flowers, covered in a blue organza with sprinkles of silver glitter.

Other fabric used is a pink chiffon base with circular sequined design. The appliqué is done in silver diamond shape foil. All finished in pink and blue embroidery and pink satin flowers stuck on to give a 3D effect and white satin with silver glitter ruffles.

The lining and bloomers are in a crazy design hologram silver foil on pale blue jersey

and the package is finished off with a padded headband.

Lily's Dress

I made Lily's Dress in 2005 and never managed to get a picture of it. I saw it up for sale at a feis last w/e and grabbed a couple of pictures.

It's made in orange satin with tiny silver hologram sequins. The appliqué is in silver sewn sequin and turquoise holo square.

I made the design in an opened Lily shape to emulate the owners name, she is a very delicate looking child who also does ballet and is training with the Royal Ballet Co. She qualified for the Worlds at her first Oireachtas wearing the dress and it always looked lovely, with great stage presence.
